Welcome to professional maternity photography in Toronto and GTA.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! A maternity photo shoot is a fantastic opportunity to document this momentous period of your life and make lifelong memories. In a maternity photo session, you can showcase your growing belly and celebrate the new life you are bringing into the world. We do maternity photography in Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, Milton, Oakville, and other areas of the GTA. To prepare for your maternity photo session, you should consider a few key factors.
Booking a photoshoot
Timing photoshoots
The best time to schedule your maternity photo session is between 28-34 weeks of pregnancy. This is when your bump is usually at its most prominent, but you’re not too uncomfortable yet. You want to avoid scheduling too close to your due date, in case your baby decides to make an early appearance.
Decide on a location for the photoshoot
Decide on a location for your maternity photo session. It could be in a studio or outdoors. My favorite studio is Mint Room Studios located in the Junction area of Toronto. If you choose an outdoor location consider the weather conditions and time of the day. Usually, the best light is two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset. We can do an outdoor maternity photo session in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Etobicoke, Scarborough, North York, Oakville, and GTA.

How to prepare for the maternity photography session
Consider the weather
You may need to modify your attire in accordance with the time of year and the setting of your picture session. Choose light, flowing materials that won’t make you overheat if the weather is warm. You may want to think about layering with a jacket or sweater during chilly temperatures.
Consider the Style and Texture of your Outfit
Choose an outfit that fits your style and makes you feel comfortable. Maxi dresses, flowing skirts, and form-fitting dresses are all great options for maternity photo sessions. When it comes to texture, lace, crochet, and knit fabrics can add visual interest and depth to your outfit.
Choose Colors that Complement your Skin Tone
Neutral tones such as cream, beige, and gray are timeless and classic options that look great in photos. Soft pastels like light blue, pink, and lavender are also popular choices. If you prefer brighter colors, try to avoid neon or overly bright colors as they may be too distracting.
Match with other Family Members
If you’re taking photographs with your spouse or other children, make sure your clothing matches. Color coordination may create a unified image without matching garments.
The most crucial part of dressing is feeling confident and comfortable. Enjoy your maternity picture shoot and embrace your belly! Yes, blue jeans and white t-shirts are a classic and timeless option for a coordinated family look.
Hair and makeup
Consider getting your hair and makeup done professionally for your maternity photo session. It can help you feel confident and put together. However, keep it simple and natural, as you don’t want to look too different from your everyday self. Avoid lotions or oils that will make your skin shine.
Props
Think about any props you want to include in your maternity photo session. This could be anything from baby shoes, ultrasound photos, or onesies to a chalkboard with your due date on it. Choose props that are meaningful to you and your partner.
Don’t Ignore Undergarments
For a maternity photo session outfit, it’s important to choose undergarments that are comfortable, supportive, and flattering. Nude-colored underwear is the best choice for maternity photo sessions, as it won’t show through light-colored or white. However, if you are planning on wearing a lace see-through dress you should consider wearing matching underwear. If you’re feeling self-conscious about your body, consider wearing shapewear to smooth out any bumps or lumps.

Poses
The secret to striking a pose during your maternity photo shoot is to choose one that feels natural and at ease for you. Consider putting your hands on your belly or cradling it with your partner’s hands to emphasize your baby bump.
A more attractive silhouette can also be achieved by standing up straight and slightly angling your body. You can add variety to your photos by experimenting with various facial expressions and by looking at your partner or the camera. The most crucial factor is to enjoy yourself and the process of documenting this unique moment in your life.
Relax and have Fun
Finally, remember to relax and have fun during your maternity photo session. Your photographer will guide you and make you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Enjoy this special time and celebrate your growing family.
